Edmonton, AB, December 17, 2025 – The Agriculture Funding Consortium (AFC), is delighted to announce that, through the commitment and collaboration of its members, it has approved over $11 million in funding in the 2024-25 funding cycle; and its strong mandate continues to attract new members.
The AFC is pleased to be welcoming Genome Alberta to its membership in time for the 2026-27 funding call; they will join Manitoba Canola Growers Association and Saskatchewan Oilseeds Development Commission as the newest members contributing to our mission: “coordinating applications for research funding to further long-term growth for agriculture and agri-food industry in Western Canada”.
Manitoba Canola Growers Association (MCGA) is committed to driving success for canola farmers through research, market development, advocacy, and outreach, ensuring farmers have a powerful voice in key industry and policy discussions. Through partnerships with national, provincial and cross commodity organizations, MCGA champions sustainability, profitability, and long-term success for the canola sector in Manitoba.
Genome Alberta works to promote and support genomics solutions, creating value and investment opportunities through excellent science, technology and application development, collaborations, and partnerships; and will be a much-valued voice in considering future funding submissions.
For the 2024 – 2025 funding call, the AFC has executed agreements for 39 individual research projects across all the major commodity and livestock groups, strategically chosen by the AFC members to deliver greater innovations in sustainable agriculture, productivity enhancement, profitability, and competitiveness within agriculture in Western Canada. For the 2025 – 2026 Call, the AFC received 166 Letters of Intent (LOI), with 71 full proposals having been submitted. These submissions are currently undergoing a rigorous review process, with decisions to be released on December 19.
For the 2026 – 2027 call, LOIs will be accepted starting in February, with final funding decisions being announced next December. The process will be supported with two webinars to help applicants produce the most effective applications. The timetable for 2026 – 2027:
